From a political standpoint the Battle of Lewes is one of the most important
battles ever fought in Britain. After he had defeated Henry III here in Lewes in
1264, Simon de Montfort was able to call a representative parliament to help
govern our country for the first time ever.

The Battle of Lewes Project is a new three-year Heritage Lottery funded initiative
based at Lewes Castle. It is helping our community learn about the battle and
decide how we want to remember it in the run-up to its 750th anniversary in 2014.

There are opportunities for everyone to take part. Please enjoy exploring this site
and then contact us to find out how you can get involved in this internationally
significant anniversary.
